My 10 Favourite Rick and Morty Episodes

I can't believe how little love I've shown Rick and Morty  on this site.  I just finished re-watching the 2nd season and it's quite clear to me that it has to be one of the most consistent shows I watch.

What's great about this list is that even if you disagree with my picks, at least you'll be reminded of all the times Rick and Morty entertained you.   If you don't know what I'm talking about then you've got a new show to look into.  That's not nothing!

Rank/Episode:
10-
"Lawnmower Dog" (S01E02)
"Rick helps Jerry out with the dog, broh. Don't even trip about this episode, because they also incept Goldenfold."

What's so special:
I'm a sucker for anthropomorphizing animals.  I especially love the concept of a dog being able to exact revenge on the humans who wronged him.  Especially when done with the very calm voice of Rob Paulsen.

Rank/Episode:
9-
"Raising Gazorpazorp" (S01E07)
"Morty becomes a father to an alien baby, while Rick and Summer get trapped in a dangerous dimension."

What's so special:
I like the emotional hook of raising a monster and still wanting to protect them, however, Rick and Summer is a great pairing for this show and the female led planet they end up on is a perfect setting for having Rick antagonize people.

Rank/Episode:
8-
"Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate" (S02E08)
"Jerry is faced with the difficult decision of losing his manhood in order to save an alien leader from imminent death. Meanwhile, Rick, Morty and Summer explore the possibilities of interdimensional television."

What's so special:
Sometimes I just want to watch mayhem up on the screen.  I did think the Jerry storyline got out of hand but watching TV from different dimensions is always great especially the way they pull off the off-the-cuff sensibility in most scenes.

Rank/Episode:
7-
"Look Who's Purging Now" (S02E09)
"Rick and Morty arrive on an alien planet to fix their ship just as the day of the purge begins there, Jerry and Summer work on their father-daughter relationship, but his lack of employment keeps coming up."

What's so special:
I enjoy anytime Morty is smitten with a female on the show, however, once the episode introduces Tony! Toni! Toné!'s "Feels Good" to the soundtrack, it's in top 10 territory.  The fact that they actually acknowledge that the song is playing is even better.  I especially loved Morty's notes on the lighthouse keeper's screenplay.

Rank/Episode:
6-
"The Ricks Must be Crazy" (S2E06)
"Rick is having trouble with his car and they have to fix it by traveling to the microverse."

What's so special:
The disdain that Rick has for Zeep is amazing.  Also watching Rick's creations use his misinformationin earnest is amazing.  The real winner is Rick's car being angry that Summer won't let it do its job and "KEEP SUMMER SAFE"

Rank/Episode:
5-
"Something Ricked This Way Comes" (S01E09)
"Summer gets a job at a pawn shop owned by the devil. Jerry helps Morty with his science fair project."

What's so special:
Another Rick and Summer team up and it's amazing!  I also appreciate that one of my mother's favourite actors, Alfred Molina, voiced the devil in this episode.  Maybe she'll start watching now.  Either way, this episode made it into the Justice League trailer.  Something I may or may not have mentioned on my podcast.  Hard to remember really.  Either way great use of DMX.

Rank/Episode:
4-
"Total Rickall" (S02E04)
"The Smith house is locked down after parasites threaten to take over the world by multiplying through flashbacks."

What's so special:
It says a lot about me that I think "Mr. Poopybutthole" is an amazing name.  But, Ooo Wee!  I had fun with this episode and legitimately didn't see the end coming.  The mechanism they created for figuring out who was real and who was a parasite was bitter-sweet which I guess is how I like my entertainment now?

Rank/Episode:
3-
"Rixty Minutes" (S01E08)

What's so special:
I'm so grossed out by anything to do with things going in eyes or coming out of eyes MADS MIKKELSEN!!! However, Ants in my Eyes Johnson rambling on is the perfect mix of compelling and repulsive to me.  This is the original episode of TV from different dimensions and was the first episode of the show that made me realize I love it.

Rank/Episode:
2-
"Meeseeks and Destroy" (S01E05)
"Rick provides the family with a solution to their problems, freeing him up to go on an adventure led by Morty."

What's so special:
Jerry really makes me sad.  The fact that he's the reason Mr. Meeseeks has to call on another Mr. Meeseeks to get help helping Jerry sets Summer and Morty's dad up as the Meg of this show.  There is no hope for him.  So much so that a creature who can solve anything can't even teach him to play golf.  Sad concept with a funny enough execution.  I guess that's my move.

Rank/Episode:
1-
"M.Night Shaym Aliens" (S01E04)
"Rick and Morty try to get to the bottom of a mystery in this M. Night Shamyaloin style twistaroony of an episode!"

What's so special:
My favourite episode for two reasons.  David Cross kills it.  When the first reveal of Prince Nebulon's plan arrives, I can't help but enjoy David's line readings.  It's also another sad look into Jerry's life.  The best day of his life was all a simulation by aliens.
