My Favourite Things from SDCC'16

My  Spoiled Rotten partner is currently traveling the world so we couldn't cover this year's Comic Con.  Lucky for you, I remembered how to write a blog post!

I'm still not excited for Doctor Strange. However, if you were wondering what news and trailers I enjoyed from this year's San Diego pop culture fest, then strap in, I'll break it down for you!

Property:
Luke Cage (Marvel/Netflix)

Why I'm Excited:
As my good friend Cheo Hodari Coker said, "The world is ready for a bulletproof black man."  We don't need to dwell on the significance of that statement too long.  Just know that seeing a black super hero get to be the lead of a show will be fun.  With the mix of comic book characters and hip hop, it really seems like Marvel wants to get mentioned on this blog with this show!

Property:
Iron Fist (Marvel/Netflix)

Why I'm Excited:
Full disclosure, if this show didn't have to acknowledge Luke Cage at some point it wouldn't be on this list.  I'm not a huge Iron Fist fan but these Netflix shows have been on point so far.  Plus it'll be good to see Loras again.

Property:
The Defenders (Marvel/Netflix)

Why I'm Excited:
I love a team up.  That will come into play later too!  I know people enjoy their heroes getting the job done on their own but any time two or more cool people interact with each other on a song, in a film, comic book, or other, I'm happy!  Once again the song choice is top notch.  I'm way more excited for this show I haven't even seen footage from.

Property:
Suicide Squad (DCEU)

Why I'm Excited:
I'm already convinced this is DC's Guardian's of the Galaxy! So yeah I want to see it and no amount of overlong, potentially spoiler-filled, trailers will dissuade me.  On the plus side this trailer showcases Harley taking out a bad guy on her own and Will Smith promising he won't be sour the whole time, word to Phil Jackson.  Music wise, and most likely the whole trailer's raison d'etre, we have the Twenty One Pilots joint, a song boasting Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic, and Ty Dolla Sign before it even reveals that it features X Ambassadors, then Skrillex and Rick Ross. True story "Purple Lamborghini"'s video was supposed to have  Jared's Joker.  I have not seen the video yet.  They probably got caught up paying every popping artist for one song.  I'm not even kidding I love soundtracks like this.

A video posted by Henry Cavill (@henrycavill) on

Property:
Henry Cavill pleading to be a part of the DCEU

Why I'm Excited:
Speaking of Suicide Squad!  Look at Superman try to get in on the fun of the DCEU.  He was basically muted in his own sequel and I guess he just wants to know what it's like to be a part of something people want to see.  Trust me.  I like Henry.  I will stick up for him any day.  But why'd Zack have to do him like this???  Watch as Will and Viola realise that they're next to the guy that they loved in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Property:
Wonder Woman (DCEU)

Why I'm Excited:
You gotta give it up for that majestic beach shot.  Then I have to respect that crazy woman with the mash up mask.  While I'm not sold on this movie, purely on the grounds of it being a war movie, I've been proved wrong before with The First Avenger.   There are a bunch of fun bits in this trailer that lead me to belive I'll continue down my path of thinking Diana Prince is dope in the DCEU word to her sliding around like Holtzman in Ghostbusters.

Property:
Justice League (DCEU)

Why I'm Excited:
I never thought DC would get here.  Teaming up their heroes on screen in a non "vs" situation.  I mean they still have Aquaman slapping around Bruce but I figure he'll get on board sooner or later.  If Batman and Superman could settle their issues, surely Arthur can suck it up.  The MVP of this trailer is Ezra Miller's Barry Allen.  Sure there is a perfectly good Barry on TV but Ezra sold that "I need friends" moment.

Property:
Black Panther (MCU)

Why I'm Excited:
You saw Civil War right?  Tell me you weren't ready for a full Black Panther movie after that post credit scene!  Seriously the addition of Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, and Danai Gurira only serves to make want to finish my time travel project so I can see this movie already!

Why I'm Excited:
Bruh, even if this movie stinks, they're riding high off the first movie's waves.  They earned a whole ton of good will and I'm willing to go on this journey again!  Add to that my low-key hero, Kurt Russell is playing a planet and Star-Lord's dad so I'm down for this movie.  Looking forward to the first trailer.  Plus look how much fun this panel was!  Getting the villains to heckle the heroes is inspired!

Property:
Thor: Ragnarok (MCU)

Why I'm Excited:
Mostly the director, Taika Waititi,  is dope, and so is the cast.  I haven't been a fan of a Thor movie yet, but who cares right? I feel like third time's the charm as far as this franchise is concerned!

Property:
Captain Marvel (MCU)

Why I'm Excited:
There were a lot of names thrown around for this movie and I was never mad at any of them.  However Brie came out of nowhere for me and I'm happy it's her.  She won best actress last Oscars but I think we all love her in 21 Jump Street!  I'm playing.  I've been watching Brie since United States of Tara and enjoy the fact she's jumping into the MCU!

Property:
Spider-Man: Homecoming (MCU/Sony)

Why I'm Excited:
Much like Black Panther, I was ready for a full Spider-Man movie after Civil War!  My enthusiasm  for Vulture as a villain isn't quite there but at least it's someone new to the movie screen and having Hannibal Buress, Bokeem Woodbine, and Donald Glover in this movie will make it all worth it!

Property:
Kong: Skull Island (Legendary)

Why I'm Excited:
Go ahead and click the link to the cast list up above.  they didn't even have time to show everyone on that list who would be a draw.  I haven't liked a King Kong movie ever, however, this cast might be the one to do it for me.  If I'm being honest, the trailer itself isn't quite selling me but it looks stunning and Sammy J threatening people is always a good way to get my attention.  I'm just glad I got to see some footage and get a better idea of the tone of this movie.
