10 of my Favourite Key & Peele Moments
It's a CELEBRATION!
Well that's all she wrote on Key and Peele. An amazing TV show that hit Chappelle's Show heights with non of the limited run issues. I may be a bit late to seeing the last episode but this is my tribute to an amazing show that never failed to make me laugh and want to quote it right away.
Continue reading to find out which sketches had some of my favourite moments to quote even before the they ended.
Sketch:
"I Said Bitch"- Season 1 Episode 1
Quotable moment:
Obviously it's the way they stretch out the bitch part of their anecdotes. Speaking of Dave, if you listened to the commentary of his DVD set for the second season, you'll hear him talk about how it takes a lot to call a black woman that to her face. Something I didn't really think about until that moment but definitely found it to be true. And from this sketch on, Key and Peele took on the Chappelle torch for me.
Sketch:
"Obama- The College Years"- Season 2 Episode 1
Quotable moment:
Let's forget for a moment how fun the idea of Barack Obama using his way with words to get everyone excited about a college party is, and take some time to meditate on how cool it is to say "Barry O" then add "Don't sleep on" to the mix! I will forever use "Don't sleep on Barry O" thanks to this sketch.
Sketch:
"Pizza Order"- Season 2 Episode 5
Quotable moment:
Dismissing his made up female friend with "her body is like a four" is amazing to me for some reason maybe because it reminds me of The 40 Year Old Virgin in the way that someone is trying desperately to sound like what they assume they should sound like in a situation they have no experience with. But, "Chinese it is" sums up this character so well. I can never just drop a food idea like that, but I guess if you don't want anyone to find the truth about Claire, you gotta switch it up with the quickness.
Sketch:
"Manly Tears"- Season 2 Episode 8
Quotable moment:
Every single time Key tries to cover up the fact that he's laughing at the boss it's amazing to me. I love when people hyena laugh and the fact that he calls it a weird sneeze is great to me. I also appreciated the tension I created for myself anticipating what the other associates would do as the sketch progressed.
Sketch:
"Substitute Teacher: Clubs"- Season 3 Episode 1
Quotable moment:
The reason I didn't go with the O.G. skit here is because I couldn't believe they pulled it off again. As someone who loves sequels and re-visiting characters, I assumed they'd come back to Mr. Garvey but when they hit me with "is there a stargate in your bedroom" I knew they found a reason to come back to these characters. The fun of mispronouncing names was still there but now we could watch students try to convince a teacher of their extra curricular interests. MORE CHARACTER WORK! But when A-A-ron quickly asks "why did I talk?" and everything to do with Glee proceeds, I feel fine placing this skit here.
Sketch:
"Insult Comic"- Season 3 Episode 6
Quotable moment:
I cried laughing at this sketch. Then I immediately sent it to Nadia to see if I could get her to tear cry!. Every time I wondered if they were going to explore an avenue, they went all the way down that avenue with amazing results. It was like they were creating the sketch for me in real time anticipating any whim I may have. Having said all that, nothing tops "make fun of the robot voice" I could not believe they actually called attention to that in the sketch. I love robot voices! 2nd place is the fact that I couldn't tell if Peele was crying and then Key actually asked "how do we even know if he's crying" really brought home that this sketch was made for me.
Sketch:
"Satan"- Season 4 Episode 3
Quotable moment:
"With my prayers" after every vile thing these women say is amazing, however, when they actually let Satan posses them so they can act out some of the things they said they'd do is what makes the whole thing great. Good looking out on actually landing the escalation and not taking me out of the moment.
Sketch:
"MC Mom"- Season 5 Episode 7
Quotable moment:
"Going through all this stuff, but it looks pretty risky/
You use so much lotion but your socks sure are crispy/"
Is straight Ether! MC Mom got bars!
Sketch:
"Game of Thrones, though"- Season 5 Episode 9
Quotable moment:
I love all of these sketches but watching these guys take on Game of Thrones and compare Khal Drago to Dave Navarro deserves to be seen by everyone who reads this blog. It's hard, I really like "KILT... slowly... by omission..." but I might have to give it up to "the Dinkles" mixed with all the physical comedy they sprinkle on top.
Sketch:
"Negrotown"- Season 5 Episode 11
Quotable moment:
While I legitimately like the song and the appearance of Art Mullen, it's the apparent disdain Wally seems to have towards the person he's introducing to Negrotown. Asking if he can finish his song the way he does is the quotable moment for me.
