10 of the Best Broad City Episodes
I love Broad City. So does Pauline, so I'm really looking forward to hearing from her about how I got this list wrong. The thing is, with a show that only has one episode I don't really care about, it's going to be hard to have an objectively perfect top 10 list.
Hard, but not impossible! So, using only episodes from seasons one through three, let's see how this list achieves this goal!
Episode/Rank:
#10- "The Last Supper" (S01E10 2014)
Funniest Moment:
While there is a lot of fun to be had in the kitchen with Amy Poehler and Seth Morris' characters, it's the fact that Ilana is pushing things to the limit with her shell fish allergy! It's also just fun to watch the two leads enjoy each other's company and support one another.
Episode/Rank:
#9- "Stolen Phone" (S01E06 2014)
Funniest Moment:
I appreciate the beat where Lincoln laments the fact that Ilana didn't say goodbye to him over the phone, and love Ilana's mating call rituals in the bar. However, there's something about the way the two leads solicit dates via Facebook in the cold open of this episode that always gets me!
Episode/Rank:
#8- "Hashtag FOMO" (S02E05 2015)
Funniest Moment:
Without a doubt, everything to do with Abbi's alter ego. Val has the best vocabulary and is a great way to see Abbi as a confident and capable woman. It doesn't hurt that a lot of humour is mined from the fact that Ilana was right about missing out on stuff.
Episode/Rank:
#7- "Apartment Hunters" (S01E09 2014)
Funniest Moment:
Amy Sedaris' realtor is amazing. I love how manic she seems and out of nowhere. She's so great throughout this episode, but, I'm going with the moment when Lincoln and Abbi watch a commercial that uses Abbi's drawings to denounce interracial couples. I didn't see it coming and it's a great way to reset the status quo at the end of the episode.
Episode/Rank:
#6- "Working Girls" (S01E03 2014)
Funniest Moment:
Every now and again Broad City does something that feels out there and I always like it. One such example is Abbi's trip to retrieve Jeremy's package from Garol. Garol is amazing just to look at, but her voice really sells it for me.
Episode/Rank:
#5- "Hurricane Wanda" (S01E07 2014)
Funniest Moment:
In the 3 years I've known Pauline, I haven't seen her laugh harder at a TV show than during the scene where Ilana completely misreads Abbi's intentions during a game of truth or dare. That was always a funny scene to me, but the memory of my now wife bursting out laughing is definitely what makes that scene a winner.
Episode/Rank:
#4- "Co-Op" (S03E02 2016)
Funniest Moment:
I'm a sucker for when characters have to do interpretations of other characters in a movie or show. So when Abbi first bursts into the Co-Op to do her best impression of Ilana, it is comedy gold to me. Pauline probably thinks the interaction between Lincoln and Ilana after he confesses that he's seeing someone else, is the bigger laugh... but this is my list!
Episode/Rank:
#3- "Burning Bridges" (S03E08 2016)
Funniest Moment:
I really like this episode because Ilana gets real with Abbi (and so does Trey) and it's nice to see them have moments like that. However, this section is for the funniest moment. As such, I submit the moment that I realized the waitress was played by Mara Wilson who was in Mrs. Doubtfire which features a scenario similar to Abbi's where Robin Williams has to entertain two different dinner dates. CONNECTIONS!
Episode/Rank:
#2- "Knockoffs" (S02E04 2015)
Funniest Moment:
Pauline and I both quote the moment that Ilana rejoices, at her grandmother's funeral, when she hears that Abbi not only went all the way with Jeremy, but, pegged him as well. It doesn't get any better than Ilana once again misreading the room and celebrating sex no matter what.
Episode/Rank:
#1- "Game Over" (S03E03 2016)
Funniest Moment:
I don't know why, but, I love Abbi's aggression during competition. Everything she yells at her co-workers makes me burst out laughing as if I'm hearing it for the first time. This episode also features the great Sister Act ending. It's not funny, but it's still great!
