10 of My Favourite Pusha T Songs
Song/Rank:
#10- "Pain" (ft. Future) off of My Name is My Name (2013)
Special Factor:
The beat is just sparse enough for Push's bars to sit with you and the true menace of the song can land. The piano hits are an excellent touch too, if I do say so myself. It is also the first song to feature Future that I wasn't put off by.
Song/Rank:
#9- "Millions" (ft. Rick Ross) off of Wrath of Caine (2013)
Special Factor:
While I sincerely appreciate the opulence of the production and hook. This is a song Will Ferrell came out to at an award show and I can't get that image out of my mind. It was such a great moment as he was dressed in an outfit with money printed all over it.
Song/Rank:
#8- "Raid" (ft. 50 Cent & Pharrell Williams) off of Fear of God II: Let Us Pray (2011)
Special Factor:
Some good ol fashioned Thorton rapping over Williams beats with the added bonus of 50 Cent being in the mix. I can't help but enjoy Push over most Neptunes beats. There goes that piano again!
Song/Rank:
#7- "M.P.A." (ft. The-Dream/Kanye West/A$AP Rocky) off of King Push-Darkest Before the Dawn: The Prelude (2015)
Special Factor:
Don't let the guest list fool you. Everyone is relegated to hook duty except for Pusha T. Once again I appreciate the piano mixed with Push's lyrics and flow. There aren't too many words that you get overwhelmed and yet I never feel like there is wasted space on the track.
Song/Rank:
#6- "Trouble On My Mind" (ft. Tyler, The Creator) off of Fear of God II: Let Us Pray (2011)
Special Factor:
Even though the song says trouble on my mind, there's something so fun about this song maybe it's the horn in it. And much like "Pain" it's a song that made me like an artist I normally wouldn't want to listen to. Tyler really came through on this track!
Song/Rank:
#5- "Numbers on the Boards" off of My Name is My Name (2013)
Special Factor:
The first single off the first solo Pusha album and it still goes hard. It's a great statement to step out of the mixtape game and announce a true run at going solo. The steady bass line and Pusha T just stunting on the track is a great listen.
Song/Rank:
#4- "Nosetalgia" (ft. Kendrick Lamar) off of My Name is My Name (2013)
Special Factor:
Two of the illest lyricists on the same song with some dirty guitar and a beat that lets them do the heavy lifting is always going to be a winner for me. Seriously, I'd be down for a Pusha T x Kendrick Lamar joint album if they ever wanted to do one.
Song/Rank:
#3- "M.F.T.R." (ft. The-Dream) off of King Push-Darkest Before the Dawn: The Prelude (2015)
Special Factor:
The urgency created by the piano loop and the way The-Dream's almost angelic voice juxtaposes the rest of the production just works for me. The visuals help but it was a pretty cinematic feeling song before I ever saw the video.
Song/Rank:
#2- "Drug Dealers Anonymous" (ft. Jay Z) (2016)
Special Factor:
I appreciated the tease on "So Appalled" on the best Kanye West album ever. However, this is the real deal. My favoruite rapper with a great rapper and it's not embarrassing. It's actually the best single of last year. Where's that album tho?!?! The point is this track feels like it could be on Reasonable Doubt... and who doesn't like music like that?
Song/Rank:
#1- "Lunch Money" (2014)
Special Factor:
All Push all the time. No help on the hook or a guest verse. Just pure Pusha T and I'm all for it! There is an undeniable energy to this song that just sneaks up on you and before the track is done you're "Yah-ing" & "Woo-ing" with Pusha!
