My 10 Favourite Chance The Rapper Songs

One day I just randomly decided it was time to listen to Acid Rap.  I have no idea why.  Maybe because I saw Chance in a Donald Glover short film.  Maybe because I thought it was such a weird artist name and a genre I had no idea about.  Either way, Beyoncé's nephew has brought the heat for a few years now and it's time for everyone to catch up!

Yes I consider Surf a Chance album even though it's a Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment album.  No, sorry, I can't put "Ultralight Beam" on here because it's technically Kanye's.  But I think we can agree that's the quintessential Chance the Rapper verse.

Rank/Song:
10- "Wonderful Everyday (Arthur Theme)" (ft. Wyclef Jean/Jessie Ware/Elle Varner/Eryn Allen Kane/Francis and the Lights) [2014]

What's so special:
Shout out to Nadia traveling the world!  I knew I could get her on board with Chance when he re-worked her and the internet's favourite TV show's theme song.  One thing I love about Chancellor is the feeling of inclusiveness he has with his music.  Wyclef just comes out of nowhere and yet it all makes sense and sounds good.

Rank/Song:
9-
"Blessings 2" (ft. Ty Dolla $ign/Raury/BJ the Chicago Kid/Anderson.Paak) [2016]

What's so special:
I can't get into a full Ty Dolla $ign album, but I'm feeling him on Kanye's album and the Suicide Squad soundtrack.  So why would the closer to Chance's last album be any different.  Ty takes me back to the New Jack Swing days and I'm all for it.  I also appreciate the slow build on this track.  There he goes with the inclusive track that doesn't sound over crowded again.

Rank/Song:
8-
"Windows" (ft. BJ the Chicago Kid & Raury) [2015]

What's so special:
This track grew on me.  I used to skip it or leave it on if I couldn't get to the skip button fast enough.  Then I found myself humming it non-stop.  It's just one of those songs that surprised me with how good it was.

Rank/Song:
7-
"Familiar" (ft. King Louie & Quavo) [2015]

What's so special:
Once again, I don't think I've ever sought out King Louie or Quavo and yet here I am, enjoying them on a Chance track because Chance and Donnie Trumpet know how to get the right voices on their songs.  INCLUSIVNESS strikes again!  I liked this song right away though.  Chance kills this hook.

Rank/Song:
6-
"No Problem" (ft. 2 Chainz & Lil wayne) [2016]

What's so special:
My low-key appreciation of all things 2 Chainz strikes again.  I dig this song before Titty Boi gets on it, but, there's something about him referencing Petey Pablo (a personal favourite of mine) that takes this song to another level.

Rank/Song:
5-
"Angels" (ft. Saba) [2015]

What's so special:
I get that someone who is only now creeping onto people's TV screens can't be considered an artist with multiple eras.  But this song is back to the classic Chance era.  Which is to say it reminds me the most of Acid Rap and that's never not good!

Rank/Song:
4-
"Juice" [2013]

What's so special:
THERE WE GO!  ACID RAP is in the house!  There was a time where nothing could get me as hyped as this song.  The hook is simple enough for me to follow enough but emotionally engaging enough for me to never laugh it off.

Rank/Song:
3-
"Favorite Song" (ft. Childish Gambino) [2013]

What's so special:
I like Donald Glover and Childish Gambino when they aren't being sad.  This song is Childish Gambino sounding pretty aggressive to me.  That's how it got put above the amazing song in the 4th slot.  I'm also a big fan of the Betty Wright sample!

Rank/Song:
2-
"Same Drugs" (Chicago Children's Choir/Eryn Allen Kane/Francis and the Lights/Macie Stewart/Sima Cunningham) [2016]

What's so special:
Bruh!  If you're not singing along to this song like you've known it your whole life by the last chorus, you're as robotic as Michael Bluth.  There are no more words to describe how amazing this song is.

Rank/Song:
1-
"Sunday Candy" (ft. Jamila Woods) [2015]

What's so special:
An ode to a rapper's grandmother that feels universal and special!  That's quite the trick.  He might as well be talking about my grand mothers the way he relating to the love he feels from his grand mother and the love he feels for his grandmother.
