10 More of my Favourite Podcasts
Every now and then I like to show off what podcasts I've been listening to! Here's the first batch. Here's the second batch. What a coincidence! Every time I have a new podcast like Movies vs. Matrimony, I have a new blog post about podcasts! Life's just funny that way!
Podcast:
2 Dope Queens
Hosted By:
Phoebe Robinson & Jessica Williams
Format:
Phoebe & Jessica check in with their listeners at the beginning of each episode and you can find out what's happening in their love life or what pop culture they're partaking in. After that we're off to the races and you can listen to mini sets by cool stand ups or conversations with the likes of Ilana Glazer and Jon Stewart!
Podcast:
The Director's Cut- A Podcast from the DGA
Hosted By:
Various Artists
Format:
Each episode features a director interviewing another director about their latest movie. Have you wanted to hear Christopher Nolan interview Quentin Tarantino? How about Martin Scorsese interviewing Steven Spielberg? It's all here and I talked about it on this year's Oscars podcast as well as every dinner or casual conversation I've had since I started listening.
Podcast:
Drink Champs
Format:
Remember Noreaga? Not the one Rick Ross was talking about. The rapper who had us all asking, "What?" Well he has a podcast. It can be great but the issue is he's really getting drunk while also trying to get his guests drunk. Was Talib Kweli just about to talk about Yasiin Bey... too bad, N.O.R.E. want's to interrupt with a non-sequitor or just "give the legends flowers while they're still alive!" If they could only find a way to edit out the moments where people are slurring their words and talking nonsense after 2 and half hours of drinking, they'd be golden!
Podcast:
Everything's Coming Up Simpsons
Hosted By:
Allie Goertz & Julia Prescott
Format:
I can't stress enough how much The Simpsons shaped my sense of humor. As Allie and Julia also mention, for a certain generation, Simpsons is the ultimate opening gambit. If someone doesn't catch your reference and immediately jump in with a new one... you probably won't click as much. Listening to writers and actors talk about their favourite episodes is a great way to spend my time.
Podcast:
Hound Tall Discussion
Hosted By:
Moshe Kasher
Format:
Here's a podcast built around the idea that people are going to be interrupted and yet I still find it fascinating. Moshe Kasher invites a subject matter expert onto his program and has his comedian friends try to interrupt them with jokes. Some episodes end up in the subject matter expert out joking the comedians and getting through the material. Other episodes wind up having the comedians genuinely engage in a real interesting conversation, and sometimes the comedians win but it's always informative.
Podcast:
I'll Name this Podcast Later
Hosted By:
Joe Budden, Rory, Mal, and sometimes Ice?
Format:
As much as I used to love Joe Budden music and as much as I dug his latest album. I can't tell if this show is brainwashing me. I didn't initially want to listen to a podcast by a musical artist who couldn't even get a theme song put together. But once I caught wind of his Drake and Jay Z theories I had to tune in. Now I'm hooked. I can't listen to More Life without thinking of what Joe has said in the past and what he's going to say. Also if you don't love Love and Hip Hop... too bad that's like 1/5th of what they talk about.
Podcast:
I Was There Too
Hosted By:
Matt Gourley
Format:
This is in the running for best theme song by the way! Anyway some of the best moments on this podcast are just Matt riffing to himself! He's an affable guy who can make me laugh but also gets great behind the scenes stories from people who had roles in some of the most important movies ever. If you want to hear about what Robert De Niro was like on the set of Goodfellas or what it was like to be an Ewok, you should definitely give this podcast a try.
Podcast:
My Dad Wrote a Porno
Hosted By:
Jamie Morton, Alice Levine, James Cooper
Format:
I wonder if British people find this podcast as charming as everyone else? They must right? It's a strong concept about Jamie reading his friends, Alice and James, the pornographic novella that his father wrote. But I feel like what makes the show endure is the way these friends talk to each other and their accents! Maybe it's just the strong conceit of the podcast...
Podcast:
Politically Re-Active
Hosted By:
W. Kamau Bell & Hari Kondabolu
Format:
I hate that I got on this podcast late. However, it is two woke hosts inviting guests on to speak about the 2016 election. I haven't actually got to season 2 yet but I bet there's a lot less fun to be had considering the outcome of that election. Afraid you're not up on all your politics? Don't worry the "HOLD UP, WAIT A MINUTE" segment of each episode will give you background on any phrase or idea that may not be obvious even through context clues so you can feel just as smart as everyone else in the coversation!
Podcast:
The Room Where It's Happening
Hosted By:
Travon Free & Mike Drucker
Format:
Do you like the musical Hamilton as much as Pauline and I do? Then you'll probably be down for listening to this weekly podcast that deals with each song in the musical one by one. It's interesting to find out who in Hollywood/the Music industry is a Hamilton fan and infuriating to hear that people have seen it multiple times with the original cast! However I'm about to go see it so I'll let you guys know how that turns out. I'm also on pins and needles waiting to see if the Obamas will accept the invitation to do the podcast and talk about "One Last Time"
